Where the Buffalo RoamMark's Trip to North Dakota |
![]() |
Memorial Day weekend 1997 I decided to do something a little different. Since North Dakota is one of the four states I haven't been to, I had to go. My trip took me from Dillon Colorado, to Denver, Cheyenne Wyoming, the Black Hills of South Dakota (Deadwood, Lead, and Sturgis), Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, Miles City and Billings Montana, The Battle of Little Bighorn National Battlefield, Sheridan WY, Casper WY, Laramie WY, Winter Park CO, and a million little towns in between. Total mileage was 1,941 miles in 4.5 days. Overall it was a wonderful trip. The thick forested hills of South Dakota's Black Hills, the wide open fields and ranges of North Dakota, Montana's big sky, and the mountains of Wyoming and Colorado were all amazing. From gambling in Deadwood SD to hiking and fishing in Theodore Roosevelt National Park ND to jamming to live music in Billings MT to drinking at a killer brewpub in Sheridan, I had a great time. So many things happened that it would take at least ten pages to describe everything. The highlight however was Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Thus, most of the pictures below were taken there. The pictures are not the greatest in the world, but hey I'm a traveler, not a photographer.
